The Red Cross currently provides the community equipment service in the following areas:

North Nottinghamshire

South Nottinghamshire

Nottingham city

In each of these areas, the Red Cross hold contracts with local authorities and social services departments to manage and distribute their community equipment. They provide long-term loans of essential equipment – such as hoists, commodes and grab rails.

As well as providing equipment to help vulnerable people live independently at home, they can also make minor structural improvements to properties – such as installing ramps – for those having difficulties at home.

Who is the service for?

People generally need a medical referral to use the community equipment service. It is possible to directly secure a walking frame or other item of equipment from the mobility aids section.

For more information about the service, call 0845 127 2911.
